The history of mass communication has been going on for a very long time but have you ever wondered about the role of women in it? The drastic changes in mass communication have happened since a long time but the contribution of women was not as much as you can think of. Because of the patriarchal thinking of the people the roles and duties of the women were so compressed or nil in this field.
The old procedure for communicating with mass was a bit different from the process right now. People used to shout it out loud in the town center or in the market. Kings used to send a message by a person through a horse but at that time the women were not even allowed to get out the house or speak in public the restriction on females was so high. The time started changing and people started supporting women in each and every field. Then in the year 1954 the revolution for mass communication started by ‘Vidya Munshi’. She became the first woman in India in the history of mass communication. Then slowly other women also started showing their interest in it and the industry was introduced with many female journalists.
In the present time the women in this industry are rocking by touching every heights of success and proving their work. According to the survey conducted by U.S. journalists on February 16 – March 17, 2022. 51% of the reporting journalists surveyed are men and 46% are women. This proves the increasing number of women in the media industry from the past years. But still some people have an old thinking of prioritizing men more than women.
Women are always setting new records in their fields and proving everyone wrong. In a country like India where the culture is very rich and always praising and supporting women in every field and consulting them and keeping them before men we get invaders of totally different mentality and opposite cultures. In our culture we worship god and goddess as well. In every country, in every history it is incomplete without a strong and confident woman who struggled so hard. Women are the one who creates the world and can destroy it as well (like maa kali). In today's era women are struggling even for their own survival in the community. People are taking those rights away which nature has given to them.
